Peter E. Gillis

Construction Superintendent

 

With over 50 years of experience in the building industry, Peter has been an integral part of projects from conception to final owner acceptance. His portfolio includes a diverse range of projects, from custom home building to multi-million-dollar multi family structures. As someone who started with hands on experience Peter has gained a profound understanding of the building process. At CCRE his role as Construction Superintendent is to ensure the seamless collaboration between owners and project managers guaranteeing that the quality and cost standards are met punctually.

Bogue D. Smith

Chief Construction Officer

 

Based in Atlanta, GA, Bogue has full oversight of construction and development throughout Capital City’s markets. Prior to joining Capital City, Bogue held senior executive positions at Manhattan
Construction, The Beck Group and DPR/Hardin Construction. Over the course of his 27-year career, Bogue has managed and executed on the construction of 14.4M gross square feet across a variety of asset types and a total value of over $2B. Bogue holds a BS in Building Construction from Auburn University. Bogue currently coaches a variety of youth sports.

Wynn Copeland, IV

Development Manager

 

Based in Atlanta, Wynn is currently overseeing construction operations for Capital City in the Charlotte, NC market. Wynn has a background in field operations and project management, primarily in civil sitework. Prior to joining CCRE, Wynn gained his construction experience with Strack, Inc, Reeves Young, and Bridge Brothers, Inc. Wynn attended The University of West Georgia and has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

Bryan Jacob

Development Associate

 

Bryan’s responsibilities include market research, underwriting, and supporting various aspects of the acquisitions and development processes.  Prior to joining CCRE, Bryan earned his MS in Commerce from the University of Virginia with an emphasis in Finance.  He interned for general contractor Brafield & Gorrie, where he assisted project management and field teams throughout the Southeast to deliver mixed-use commercial and industrial projects.  Bryan received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University.

Jesse Caudill

Director of Pre-Development

 

As Director of Pre-Development, Jesse leads CCRE’s predevelopment activities bridging the gap between acquisitions and construction with a focus on ensuring design plans accurately and completely reflect CCRE’s vision and specifications for each project.  Jesse provides oversight, training and leadership to the Project Team and the Development Managers in implementing the appropriate processes and activities to ensure project objectives are met.  Prior to joining CCRE in 2018, Jesse worked at Niles Bolton Associates, one of the top multifamily architecture firms in the nation.  During his time at Niles Bolton, Jesse worked as the project architect on several different types of mixed-use multifamily projects.  Jesse is a nationally registered architect and holds his active license in Georgia.

Robert Day

Advisor – Acquisitions/Capital Markets

Robert Day is an Advisor at Capital City. Since 1973, he has been involved in over $2 billion of real estate transactions including acquisitions, development and brokerage assignments totaling over 4 million square feet across the US. Prior to joining Capital City, Robert co-founded and served as President of two private real estate investment firms, Edwards Day and Day Capital Partners. In that capacity, he directed the ownership efforts in the acquisition, disposition, leasing and management of over $500 million of assets and served as a General Partner in over 25 entities including office building transactions in Atlanta, Boston, Miami and Washington DC totaling approximately 1.5 million square feet.

Aaron Fortner

Aaron Fortner is a Partner at Capital City. His responsibilities include mixed use site acquisitions, site planning and design, and project entitlements.

Prior to CCRE, Mr. Fortner was an Urban Designer for the City of Atlanta City Planning Department from 1998 – 2003, and subsequently was the Owner and Principal of an Atlanta-based City Planning and Urban Design consulting practice from 2003 – 2018.
Mr. Fortner has an Urban Studies undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida and a Masters of City Planning degree with a focus in Urban Design from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Fortner is also an adjunct professor of Urban Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Sheryl Cautero

Operations Manager

Sheryl’s role as Operations Manager covers a multitude of activities and responsibilities here at Capital City Real Estate. She is brought into the project during predevelopment and supports all members through project completion and assists with day-to-day operations. Her diverse knowledge and experience, and ability to support every facet of our business is invaluable.  Sheryl has over 30 years’ experience in project management in both residential and commercial real estate, with a history in managing a large multifamily portfolio covering the southeast. Using her grit, determination, and dedication makes her a key player in the success of our projects.

Jason Young

Director of Finance

Jason has always had a great appreciation for real estate. He finds improving the urban environment very rewarding and recognizes the importance of his position in the intricate development process. Jason is responsible for the oversight of all accounting and finance activities for Capital City Real Estate. He has over 18 years of accounting and finance experience. Prior to joining the Capital City team Jason was the Controller for a top 10 national public builder. He has over 13 years of real estate and construction experience. Jason holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting degree from Howard University. He lives in Columbia, Maryland with his wife and two children.

Vicki Johnston

Director / Sales & Marketing

Vicki believes there is a better way. A better way to design urban living environments that meet basic and individual needs. Understanding buyers, from first timers to those wanting to age-in-place, and spending the time to thoughtfully design spaces around them is what she loves to do, using her 25-year background in sales, marketing and research. When people can spend less time commuting, have room for the things they need, get a little outdoor space and share their homes with friends and family in ways that work for them, their lives are better. The Cap City team is committed to improving the urban living experience every day, in everything built, for all buyers, and she’s proud to be a part of that.

Jerry Zayets

Jerry Zayets is Director of Acquisitions & Development for Capital City. He is responsible for identifying potential development and redevelopment sites, deal structuring, and managing the entire development process. Prior to joining Capital City, Mr. Zayets managed a series of multifamily development projects for Jubilee Housing and Urban Investment Partners, ranging in size from 20 to 300 units, with total value over $40 million. Mr. Zayets graduated with a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, and a Master’s Degree in Real Estate Development from the Calvin Institute of Real Estate Development at the University of Maryland. Mr. Zayets has been a featured speaker on green building practices at several Ecobuild conferences. Mr. Zayets lives with his wife and children in Ward One in Washington, DC.

Jim Wurzel

Director of Construction

Jim considers it a privilege to build homes for people. He strongly believes that a well-built home is a direct result of the smart planning and detailed design that takes place well before a shovel goes into the ground. Each CCRE project is as unique as Jim, and he approaches each one with a commitment to improve the urban living experience for every buyer. Jim graduated from the University of Texas and served for six years in the United States Navy. He started his construction career in 1981. Jim does not have any children, so he considers his progeny to be the homes that he builds.

Brent Zimmerman

Principal / CFO

Brent Zimmerman is a principal at Capital City. His responsibilities include overseeing company processes and operations while focusing on construction and purchasing systems processes. Prior to Capital City, Mr. Zimmerman worked at a multi-billion dollar international company as a team lead in the design of network infrastructures. Mr. Zimmerman has an Engineering Degree from the University of Michigan, graduating Magna Cum Laude and is a member of their Engineering Honor Society.

Chris Love

Managing Partner | Washington D.C.

Based in Washington, DC, Chris leads Capital City’s real estate acquisition and development efforts throughout the Mid Atlantic. Prior to joining Capital City, Chris held positions at ZOM Living, UDR and First Capital Realty. Over the course of his career, Chris has sourced, capitalized, and executed the development of 2,300 multifamily units with a total value of $900M. Chris holds a BS in Business Management, as well as a Minor in Public and Urban Affairs from Virginia Tech. He currently serves on the Industry Advisory Board for the Virginia Tech Blackwood Program in Real Estate.

Scott Zimmerman

Founding Principal & CEO

Scott is responsible for overseeing project development and project funding. He also specializes in project selection and design. He has over 10 years’ experience in urban infill development in the Washington, DC area. Prior to founding Capital City, Mr. Zimmerman served as a naval aviator for nine years, which included several overseas deployments. He graduated from the US Naval Academy at Annapolis with a BS in Engineering.
