While it’s common for condos in Miami to be nearly surrounded by water, it’s rare for residences in the District. Capital City Real Estate will begin construction in the spring of 2017 on Peninsula 88, a new condo at Buzzard Point in Southwest Washington where First, V and Half streets are surrounded on three sides by water.
“This condo building will be unique in the city because of the water views from three sides of the building,” says Scott Zimmerman, president of Capital City Real Estate. “We think this is a great opportunity for buyers to acquire rare waterfront property in the city.”
While the building will have its own amenities, it’s within walking distance of the shops and restaurants being built at the Wharf as well as the development around the Navy Yard Metro station. Buzzard Point is slated for its own redevelopment with shops, restaurants and the D.C. United Stadium.

Designed by Eric Colbert & Associates, Peninsula 88 will have 110 units ranging from 700 square feet for a one-bedroom to 1,400 square feet for a two-bedroom unit. Prices are anticipated to range from $500,000 to $1.5 million. Some floor plans include a den and each one-bedroom unit will have a half-bath in addition to a full bath.
“Since this building is slightly removed from other condos and apartments in the area, we’ve designed it to have a spalike feel, as if it’s a retreat from the city yet still walkable,” Zimmerman says. “The units and the common areas will all have water views and some will have a view of the Capitol building and the city skyline.”
Building amenities will include concierge services and a large common roof deck as well as private roof decks for the penthouses. Each unit will have private outdoor space. Garage parking and storage units will be available for purchase. The building is anticipated to be ready for residents in fall 2018.
